Johnston & Co., Jewellers, Watchmakers, Gold and Silversmiths, 53, Buchanan Street.—

    The ancient trade of the gold and silversmith, jeweller, and watchmaker receives admirable representation at the well-known establishment of the firm named above. This noteworthy house was founded about seven years ago.

    The premises comprise a spacious and handsomely appointed shop, and contain a large, carefully selected, and thoroughly first-class stock of gold and silver watches, gold and gem jewellery, gold and silver plate and fancy articles, and a magnificent assortment of marble clocks and artistic bronzes, all of which goods are tastefully, attractively, and effectively arranged. The great speciality of the house may be said to consist in clocks, of which all kinds and descriptions are shown. The feature of bronzes has also been admirably developed. Messrs. Johnston have on view a balloon clock, a very curious and unique piece of horological work, said to be the only specimen of its kind in the country. The display of superior watches at moderate prices is particularly noteworthy, and the jewellery stock, in plain gold and silver, and also in diamonds and other precious stones, is one of much volume, value, beauty, and diversity.

    The firm’s goods are all purchased at the lowest possible rates for cash, and in this way can be retailed to the public at practically wholesale prices. The business is personally conducted by Mr. Robert Johnston with conspicuous energy and ability ; and the large and liberal patronage enjoyed by the house is ample evidence of the fact that the firm’s efforts, quite as much in the public interest as in their own, have not failed to meet with deserved appreciation and support.
