Corsan & Currie

Corsan & Currie, Fish and Ice Merchants, Poulterers, and Game Dealers, 11, 13, and 15, West Howard Street.—

The extensive business carried on by Messrs. Corsan & Currie as fish and ice merchants, poulterers, and game dealers, presents many features of more than ordinary interest. The firm has organised one of the most perfect and complete systems of delivery in the city and suburbs, extending over a radius of more than five miles. Every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday they include in their delivery the districts of Skelmorlie and Wemyss Bay. This is of great convenience to the residents of the districts, as well as to those who reside there during the summer months, and is well patronised by them.

The establishment of Messrs. Corsan & Currie is the largest of its kind in Glasgow. Its foundation dates back to the year 1858, when it was established by Mr. Alexander McAllister, who carried on the business till 1876, when he was succeeded by the present proprietors. The premises are of a superior character, having a noble facade, and comprising a handsome double-fronted shop, with two well-appointed oyster-rooms. There are also large storing chambers kept at a low rate of temperature for the preservation of all kinds of game, fish, and poultry. A very large supply is received daily of all kinds of fish, both salt and fresh-water, and of poultry direct from the farms. When game is in season large quantities of all kinds arrive daily from all parts of Scotland. Their supplies of salmon are received direct from the river Tay, from their own fishings just below Perth.

They have also a first-class connection with all the leading hotels and restaurants, and with the principal river and ocean-going steamers. Extensive wholesale dealings are also done with all the large towns in all parts of Scotland, from Caithness to Wigtown, and even with some towns, in England and Ireland. The connections of the firm are well founded upon the eminent reputation it has so long enjoyed, and on the marked ability, energy, and enterprise with which the business is conducted.
