In portrait and landscape photography a firm of old standing and widespread celebrity is the well-known house of Messrs. T. and K. Annan & Sons. The business was established in the year 1855 by Mr. Thomas Annan, and was for many years carried on in Hope Street, when in 1872 the present extensive and commodious premises were acquired, which comprise large and handsome showrooms, with reception saloon and studio beautifully fitted and decorated with great taste and artistic effect.

This firm were the first to introduce and execute photo-engraving into Great Britain and the autotype into Scotland. Messrs. Annan have very extensive autotype works at Greenbank, Lenzie, and in this branch of the business employ a very large staff of artists. The work done is altogether of a high-class character, embracing photography in all its branches and fine art publishing, large orders being executed for the leading London and Edinburgh publishers. In the show-rooms are exhibited many beautiful specimens of this firm’s work, executed in a manner it would be difficult to surpass, and displaying in every detail the superior skill and talent employed in this establishment. As fine art merchants this firm has long held a leading position, and its extensive connections in this department are well founded upon the eminent reputation it has always enjoyed.
