DAVID
YELLOWLEES
DR. YELLOWLEES is a native of Stirling, and received his
early education there. He studied at Edinburgh University and at Paris. He
graduated M.D. at Edinburgh in 1857, and became L.R.C.S., Edinburgh, in the same
year. He was elected F.F.P.S., Glasgow, in 1875, and received the honorary
degree of LL.D. from Glasgow University in 1888.
He was Resident Physician and Surgeon in the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, and
President of the Royal Medical Society of Edinburgh in 1857-58; was for three
years Assistant Physician at the Royal Edinburgh Asylum, Morningside; for eleven
years Medical Superintendent of the Glamorgan County Asylum, which he organised
and opened; and for twenty-seven years Physician Superintendent of the Glasgow
Royal Asylum, Gartnavel, of which he is now the Hon. Consulting Physician and a
Director.
He was for thirty years the Lecturer on Insanity in Glasgow
University. He was President of the Psychological Section of the British Medical
Association in 1885, President of the Medico Psychological Association of Great
Britain and Ireland in 1890, and President for three years (1891-4) of the
Faculty of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow. He is an Honorary Member of the
American Medico Psychological Association, a Foreign Member of the Moscow
Society for Nervous and Mental Diseases, and Fellow of various other learned
Societies.
