FRANK
SPEDDING
BORN in 1868 at Stockport, where he received his early
education, the editor of the Daily Record and Mail made his first acquaintance
with newspaper work on one of the two weeklies published in that prosperous
industrial town on the Mersey. He afterwards entered the wider sphere of
journalism in Manchester, in which city he spent some years. When the Daily
Record was inaugurated in 1895 he was appointed to the chief sub-editorship, a
post he relinquished in 1904 to assume the editorship.
He is the second son of Mr. J. F. Spedding of Stockport and
married in 1896, Hethe, youngest daughter of the late Thomas Armitage, tobacco
manufacturer of that town. Since coming to Scotland he has made his residence at
Gourock, where he has every facility for the pursuit of his favourite
recreation, motor boating.
