JOHN MACLEAN
THE minister of St. Columba's Parish matriculated at Glasgow University in 1857,
and graduated B.A. with "honourable distinction in Classics and Philosophy" in
1861, and M.A. in 1862. Passing through the Divinity Hall, he took the degree of
B.D. in 1866, and twenty-one years later the University conferred upon him the
degree of D.D. From 1867 to 1880 he was minister of the parish of Kilchonan in
Islay, for the next eight years he was incumbent of Tarbert on Loch Fyne, and
since 1888 he has held his present charge. He was one of the revisers of the
Gaelic Bible published in 1902, and is an examiner for the B.D. degree in
Glasgow University in Hebrew, New Testament Exegesis, and Biblical Criticism, as
well as for the M.A, degree in Hebrew.
