THOMAS JOHNSTON

    NOBEL'S Explosives Company, Limited, besides possessing large metal and ammunition works at Birmingham, safety fuse works at Swansea and Linlithgow, and detonator works near Polmont, owns at Ardeer, in Ayrshire, what is said to be the largest dynamite and cordite factory in the world. The general manager of the company is a native of Edinburgh. He was educated in his native city, joined the company in 1880, and attained his present position four year later. He is a golfer, and has travelled much on the Continent, in Canada, the United States, Australia, and New Zealand. He married Emelia, daughter of C. Grey Wotherspoon, J.P., barrister, and has no family.
