THE head of the well-known merchant firm of William Graham
& Co. and its various corresponding firms in England, India, and Portugal,
founded by his grandfather in 1784, is a son of the late John Graham of
Lancefield, Glasgow, and Elizabeth Hatt Noble, and was born 14th August, 1837.
He received his education at Merchiston College, Edinburgh, and at Glasgow
University, and has been a member of the great business of his family since
1855. He has also taken considerable interest in public affairs, and is on the
Commission of the Peace for the counties of Glasgow, Lanark, and Stirling. He is
the laird of Larbert and Househill in Stirlingshire, and was created a baronet
in 1906.
Sir John married first in 1862 Jane, daughter of the late John Graham Adam of
Denovan, Stirlingshire, by whom he had two sons and five daughters. She died in
1890, and in 1891 he married Frances Lucy, daughter of the late Martin
Collingham Clodd, of Bury St. Edmunds.
