A SON of the late John Coats, M.D., Glasgow, Mr. Coats was born in the city in 1850, and educated at Glasgow Academy and Glasgow University, where he graduated M.A. in 1871 Three years later he passed as a law agent, and in 1875 he was assumed as a partner of the firm of A. J. & A. Graham, writers, of which he is now senior member. He was admitted a member of the Faculty of Procurators in the following year. Apart from his business he has a seat on the local board of the North British and Mercantile Insurance Company. Mr. Coats married in 1880.
